Archive digitisation can be fun

The National Library of Finland has come up with a different approach on digitising its archives. Rather than using volunteer keyers, as per Ancestry’s World Archive Project I’ve mentioned before, they are using online games to check the accuracy of optical character recognition software.

From ReadWriteWeb: The project, Digitalkoot (Digital Volunteers), blends microtasks, crowdsourcing, and video games to break up and distribute some of the dull repetitive work of verifying digitized records. Updaet 2020: Digitalkoot website no longer active.

Not quite sure why this featured on a tweet stream about community asset transfers, but hey, don’t knock the source.
